Despite being one of the smaller programs on the course, VMI cross country opened its 2025 season with a statement as both the men’s and women’s teams battled deep fields at the Spider Alumni Open hosted by the University of Richmond at Pole Green Park Aug. 30, 2025. The men’s team powered to an impressive 10th-place finish in a field that included much larger schools, while the women turned in solid individual performances to set the tone for the season ahead.
“Today’s meet was a strong reflection of our team’s determination and preparation. Each athlete showed resilience and composure on a challenging course, representing the Institute with pride. While results matter, it’s the continued growth, discipline, and team unity that will define the new growth of our program. We’re proud of how our small group of runners competed and look forward to building on this performance in the meets ahead.”
