Numerous awards recognizing the accomplishments of cadets are presented. Awards are presented by civic groups and the Institute, as well as the ROTC components.
The Institute Awards Convocation is an important event to announce the recipients of the Institute Professor Awards, the VMI Distinguished Teaching Awards, the Thomas Jefferson Teaching Award, the VMI Corps of Cadets Faculty Mentor Award, the VMI Distinguished Service Awards, the Pendleton Distinguished Coaching Award, the Matthew Fontaine Maury and Wilbur S. Hinman, Jr. Research Awards, the Faculty Scholarships for Merit, and many others.
