VMI men’s and women’s swim and dive teams faced Mount St. Mary’s at the ARCC swimming pool Oct. 11, 2025, with the Keydet men earning their first win of the season and the women turning in several strong performances in a hard-fought meet.
VMI Men’s Team
The men’s team earned a dominating 221-71 victory over the Mountaineers, breaking 13 short-course meter records and 13 first-place marks.
Highlighting VMI’s evening was Hudson Weinhagen ’29, who destroyed a 13-year rat record in the second round of 1-meter dives. Weinhagen scored 273.90 points in the 1-meter, claiming first place. This is the fourth-highest score in the league.
Jack Mills ’28 had himself a day, breaking three short-course meter records and tallying three first-place finishes in the 200 fly (2:07.07), 100 free (51.97), and 200 IM (2:10.42). Stephen Russell ’28 shattered a pair of similar records, earning first in the 200 free (1:55.83) and 400 free (4:08.36).
Also claiming first place in record-breaking fashion were Caleb Wolf ’28 in the 800 free (8:54.52), Sam Castle ’27 in the 100 back (57.97), Ian Lutz ’29 in the 50 free (23.40), and Matthew Picard ’27 in the 100 fly (56.92).
Sam Calder ’28 snapped a short-course meter record in the 200 back (2:14.00) en route to second place, while Austin Reeder ’27 collected second in the 100 breast in record time (1:04.71).
On the boards, Lane Jones ’26 brought home the gold in the first round of the 1-meter, recording 264.05 points.
In the relays, VMI picked up a pair of victories and record-breaking marks, with the 200 free relay squad of Lutz, Calder, Castle, and Picard (1:34.50) and the 200 medley relay team of Castle, Tucker, Lutz, and Picard (1:43.16).
VMI Women’s Team
Despite the 164-129 defeat, the VMI women’s team had five first-place finishers and nine short-course meter records snapped.

Kicking off the evening was Isabelle Haer ’28, who took first in the 1-meter dive with a score of 198.65. Ollie Hobbs ’28 (171.30) and Caitlin Bernard ’29 (151.20) followed in second and third place, respectively.
Mackenzie Byrne ’28 shattered a pair of short-course meter records, taking first place in the 100 free (1:01.09) and second place in the 50 free (27.73). Also breaking two records was Lacy Delzell ’29, who claimed first in the 200 back (2:24.19) and second in the 100 back (1:07.49).
Avery Shuping ’29 scored first in the 800 free (9:52.09), breaking the short-course record, with Carissa Witte ’29 earning second in the 200 fly (2:29.15) to capture another record. Witte would later snag first place in the 100 fly (1:07.59).
In the relays, VMI had a pair of relay squads earn second place and break a short-course record, including the 200 free relay team of Byrne, Delzell, Noelle Tong ’26, and Valeria Paulson ’29 (1:51.09) and the 200 medley relay team of Delzell, Byrne, Witte, and Parker Belle Fogle ’28 (2:04.16).
