VMI Pistol Club Wins Second Match of Fall 2025 Season

The VMI pistol club went head-to-head with the Liberty University pistol team at the Liberty Mountain Gun Club Nov. 8, 2025. In a hard-fought match, VMI came out ahead in both the sport pistol and standard pistol components of the Olympic-style .22 caliber pistol shooting match.
The sport pistol component included two elements. First was a precision fire element consisting of 30 shots divided into six relays, each made up of five shots executed within a 5-minute period. Next was a rapid fire element, consisting of 30 shots executed in six relays of five shots each, where each relay was divided into five 3-second firing windows. The VMI team prevailed in sport pistol, posting a score of 2029 points to Liberty’s 1892 points.
The standard pistol component consisted of three elements. First was a precision fire element of 20 shots fired in four relays of five shots over a 2.5-minute period. Next was the rapid fire element, made up of 20 shots fired in four relays of five shots each over a 20-second period. Last was a rapid fire element of 20 shots fired in four relays of five shots each over a 10-second period. The VMI team again eclipsed the Liberty team, scoring 1847 points to Liberty’s 1719 points.
Cadet Kate Patrick ’27 led the match, ranking first overall by posting a personal and match best of 539 points for the sport pistol component and a match best of 489 points for the standard pistol component. Cadet Michael Schreiber ’28 ranked second overall for the match, posting personal bests of 500 points for sport pistol and 477 for standard pistol. Cadet Andrei Hipol ’28 ranked third overall for the match, posting personal bests of 487 points for sport pistol and 464 points for standard pistol. Cadet Chase Boucher ’27 was also a notable shooter for VMI, scoring a personal best and the second-highest sport pistol score with 503 points.
The team will now be preparing for the U.S.A. Junior Olympics shooting qualifier at VMI Dec. 2–3 and the Civilian Marksmanship Program Winter Air Gun match at Camp Perry, Ohio Dec. 12–14.
