For the second time this season, VMI football’s Jack Culbreath ’24 was named the Southern Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 23, 2023.

The Charlottesville, Virginia, native, who continues to handle kickoffs and serve as the holder, punted seven times against Samford, averaging 48.1 yards per kick. The highlight came early in the third quarter when Culbreath boomed a career-high 76-yard punt that was downed at the Samford nine-yard line, helping the Keydets hold the Bulldogs scoreless in the half.

Culbreath’s season average of 44.9 yards per punt ranks third in the nation at the FCS level, while his career punt average of 43.2 is third among active FCS players.

Culbreath’s other honor this season came after the team’s win over Wofford, in which he was named Stats Perform FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week.
