serves alumni beyond the barracks. We want our alumni to be informed advocates, eager to engage with each other and the Institute and inspired to give of their time, talent or treasure in support of our beloved VMI.

    Thom Brashears '95 Chief Operating Officer, VMI Alumni Association, Inc.

    The VMI Alumni Association chief operating officer is responsible for the direction of a comprehensive self-governed Alumni Association of nearly 26,000. The COO reports to the VMI Alumni Agencies CEO and also supports the president of the VMI Alumni Association Board of Directors. Responsibilities include formulation of the policies, goals, objectives, programs and procedures of the Association. The COO provides oversight of Association programs and staff to ensure they meet the goals and objectives of the Association’s strategic plan. The COO works closely with VMI leadership, VMI athletics and across the VMI Alumni Agencies to develop and execute programs consistent with the missions of VMI and the Alumni Association.

    Megan Ayers

    Megan Ayers '19 Program Outreach Officer

    The program outreach officer assists with planning and implementing strategies, programs and projects that increase alumni chapter involvement and engagement to the Institute and the Alumni Association. The outreach officer works to support our alumni chapters as well as other stakeholders on post including the Office of Admissions, the Office of Career Services and the commandant’s office.

    Tyler “T.J.” Lighton '15 Director of Alumni Outreach

    The director of alumni outreach is responsible for planning and implementing strategies, programs and projects that increase alumni engagement and involvement with VMI and the Alumni Association. The director works with our alumni chapters as well as other stakeholders on post including the Office of Admissions, the Office of Career Services and the commandant’s office to ensure that the Alumni Association is providing its alumni opportunities to be informed and engaged about the current state of the Institute.

    Norma Robinson

    Norma Robinson Executive Assistant/Office Manager

    The office manager provides assistance to all alumni services and programs. Working directly for and closely with the chief operating officer, this position assists with the day-to-day operations of the office.

    Sam Sorrells Director of Administration

    The director of administration is responsible to organize and manage general operations and administrative functions of the Alumni Association; support the COO, VMIAA Board of Directors, maintenance of property and facilities.
