Zaczkowski Named VMI Swimming and Diving Head Coach

On Tuesday, July 21, VMI athletics announced Adam Zaczkowski will take over the VMI men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs as the new head coach.

“I am happy to accept the position of head swimming and diving coach at VMI,” said Zaczkowski. “I want to thank AD Walton [’07] and Superintendent Lt. Gen. Furness [’87]. Throughout this process, VMI’s history and culture are a place that I want to be a part of. My family is excited to be in Lexington.”

Zaczkowski comes to VMI after serving as the head coach and aquatics director at Le Moyne since 2022. Before being upgraded to head coach, Zaczkowski was an assistant coach in 2014 and from 2019 –22, along with being named the special assistant to the director of athletics in 2021.

During his time with the Dolphins, the Connecticut native coached his athletes to breaking 40 school records, multiple CSCAA NIC qualifiers and finalists, and several NEC champions and record holders. No stranger to VMI’s new conference, his staff was named NEC Diving Staff of the Year in 2024 and 2026.

On the academic side, his programs have accumulated three GPA Conference Champion awards. In 2026, the Le Moyne men earned third, while the women were dubbed seventh in the NEC Championships.

“We are thrilled to name Adam Zaczkowski as our head swimming and diving coach,” said Jamaal Walton ’07, VMI director of intercollegiate athletics. “We welcome his wife, Erin, and two children, Noah and Owen, to the Whole Damn Team. When we began this search process, we were seeking a dynamic, team-oriented, compassionate leader who had the drive to build a championship-caliber program in the NEC. Adam checked all of those boxes and showed the search committee his willingness to lean in and embrace the VMI experience.”

“His values, familiarity with the NEC, technical coaching, and respect for the three-legged stool showed me he was the best leader for the swimming and diving program,” continued Walton. “The Zaczkowski era begins now, and I’m excited for VMI swimming and diving to make a big splash in the NEC next season.”

The Keydets are fresh into their inaugural season in the NEC after competing in the America East for nine seasons. VMI will host the 2027 NEC Championships at Goodall Pool in the VMI Aquatic Center in February 2027.
