Heading into his first season as the new director of track and field and cross country, Zack Scott released his teams’ 2022 track and field schedule Oct. 29.

“We are excited to announce our track and field meet schedule for our 2022 season,” Scott said. “We look forward to hosting quality indoor meets and continuing to set new facility records with great competition. We are once again hosting the Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. We hope everyone comes to cheer us on at the CPTF this winter. We have also scheduled a very competitive outdoor season that includes competition crossing a large range of Division I conferences.”

Switching things up a bit, the Keydets open the indoor season with the VMI Team Challenge Saturday, Jan. 15, which was typically the second indoor meet VMI hosted in recent years. The Keydet Invitational will be held the weekend of Jan. 21-22, 2022.

The VMI Winter Relays are slated for the weekend of Jan. 28-29, two weeks before the VMI Winter Classic, the weekend of Feb. 11-12.

For the fifth year in a row, VMI will then host the Southern Conference Indoor Championships the weekend of Feb. 26-27. Qualifying individuals will head to the IC4A/ECAC Indoor Championships in Boston the weekend of March 4-6, a week before the NCAA Indoor Championships are held March 11-12 in Birmingham, Alabama.

The outdoor season begins with the Raleigh Relays, the weekend of March 24-26, hosted by North Carolina State in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Vertklasse Invitational hosted by High Point University the weekend of April 1-2 will be the Keydets’ second outdoor meet.

The following weekend, the Keydets head to Durham, North Carolina, to compete at the Duke Invitational from April 7-9. The University of South Carolina will then host the Gamecock Invitational April 16, where several Keydets will compete.

Samford University will host the 2022 Southern Conference Outdoor Championships the weekend of April 30-May 1 in Birmingham, Alabama.

Similar to the indoor season, qualifying individuals will then head to the IC4A/ECAC Championships from May 13-15 before the NCAA East Regional set for May 26-28. The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will take place from June 8-11 in Eugene, Oregon.
