Track and Field 2026 Outdoor Season Recap

The 2026 outdoor track and field season was another successful campaign for VMI, as the Keydets earned multiple individual titles at the recent Southern Conference Championships and All-Conference honors.

  • Cameron Thomas ’27 won the men’s pole vault individual title at the Southern Conference Championships to earn All-Conference recognition.
  • Morgan Fraser ’27 won the women’s high jump individual title with a height of 5’ 6”, which ties for the second-best height in program history. The mark also gave her All-SoCon honors.
  • The VMI men took sixth place at the SoCon Championships with 50.5 points.
  • The VMI women placed seventh at the SoCon Championships with 37.0 points.
  • Naturale Faison ’28 earned All-Conference honors by placing second in the 100-meter dash, while Reagan Gilman ’28 also achieved All-SoCon by arriving in third in the 800-meter.
  • Ruth Dickersheid ’28 came in fifth in the shot put with a new personal-best distance of 41’ 11.50”, the sixth-best shot put in program history.
  • Besides Thomas, Deonte Harris ’29 also registered All-Conference honors in the triple jump by placing second overall with a distance of 14.37 meters.
  • Gilman broke her own school record in the 800-meter by running a 2:07.67 in 13th place at the UVA Challenge, beating her time of 2:10.50 set 1 week prior at the JMU Invitational.
  • Thomas broke his own school pole vault record in the first meet of the outdoor season at the SoCon-Big South Challenge, where he vaulted a 5.11-meter (16’ 9.25”), besting his former school record mark of 16’ 8.75” set in 2025.
