Keydet Club 2023 VMI Football Reunion Weekend

The Keydet Club held the 2023 VMI Football Reunion weekend Aug. 4–6, 2023. Now in its second year, the event brought 80 football alumni, spanning from the Classes of 1968–2022, back to post to reconnect with former teammates and members of the VMI football family.

The weekend kicked off with a round of golf at the Lexington Golf & Country Club, followed by a welcome reception in the Moody Hall Activities Room that evening. At the reception, alumni connected with familiar and new faces from the VMI football family, met the Keydet staff, and heard from Danny Rocco, head coach, as he heads into his first season with the Keydets. The next day, alumni watched an open practice in Fiorini Field, lunched in Crozet with the team, toured the Institute’s new facilities, and enjoyed a BBQ dinner to close out the day. On Aug. 6, the final day culminated with a breakfast hosted by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Marshall Hall – Center for Leadership and Ethics.

“Any time we can get a group like this back to post to interact with our coaches and cadet-athletes, it’s a great opportunity,” said Andrew Deal ’12, Alumni Agencies chief development officer and VMI Keydet Club chief operating officer. “Many folks who come to these events aren’t able to get back very frequently. This weekend was an opportunity to give members of the VMI football family a sense of many of the good things happening around post and VMI athletics. We would also like to give a special thanks to Coach Rocco and his staff for granting what was really special access to the football program for a large group of our alumni.”
