Working with volunteers across the country and abroad, the VMI Alumni Association supports more than 90 alumni chapters. Despite their different locations, sizes and levels of activity, each VMI alumni chapter strives to keep the spirit of VMI alive among our VMI alumni, family and friends, wherever they may reside. Most VMI alumni chapters host a number of events throughout the year. Whether your chapter is gathering for Founders Day, rooting the Keydets to victory at a watch party or sending the next matriculating class off with a rat send-off, as VMI alumni, you are welcomed to attend and share time with other members of the VMI family. Many chapters also play an active role supporting career networking and admissions initiatives. Get connected with your chapter, and find out the opportunities available.

Distinguished Chapter Award

The Distinguished Chapter Award recognizes VMI Alumni Association chapters that demonstrate exceptional creativity, engagement, and impact within their communities. Chapters earn this honor by hosting a variety of events aligned with the four core purposes of a chapter—engage, involve, network, and recruit—and by meeting both quantitative and qualitative criteria during the award year (July–June). To meet the quantitative threshold criteria, a chapter must have held at least four events during the award review period. Chapters are evaluated on factors such as event variety, innovation, organization, volunteer involvement, and reporting. To ensure fairness, awards are given in four size-based categories:

  • Small (less than 100 alumni)
  • Medium (100–200 alumni)
  • Large (200–400 alumni)
  • Mega (400+ alumni)

Additional recognition is given for honorable mentions and most improved chapters.
Award recipients benefit from increased visibility across alumni communications, recognition at national events, and a stronger platform to inspire engagement within their local VMI community.
