Rachel Ahumada ’24 earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women’s Water Polo Rookie of the Week honors March 25.

The Simi Valley, California, native had three goals, two assists, four steals, and two drawn exclusions against Gannon University March 14 in a tough OT loss in a match played at Salem University (West Virginia).

“Rachel has been a real presence in our games with her speed and quick steals,” said Danielle Montenegro, head coach. “Any time she is in the pool, I can count on her to bring some energy both in her defense and in her counterattacks. It has been exciting to watch her play and to see how quickly she has picked up on our team goals and strategies. I look forward to seeing her development with still so many years ahead of her.”

For the season (at the time of her selection), Ahumada had 12 goals and eight assists and led the team with 16 steals. She also has drawn 14 exclusions, second on the team.

On April 8, Ahumada was honored again by MAAC when she was selected as Freshman of the Week. Teammate McKenna Imset ’21 was also honored; she was selected as the MAAC Player of the Week.
