2026 Indoor Track and Field Recap

The VMI indoor track and field teams continue to improve and climb the ranks in the Southern Conference from a competitive standpoint in the league.

  • The VMI men’s track and field team placed fourth and the women’s team sixth at the Southern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by VMI at the Corps Physical Training Facility.
  • Deonte Harris ’29 was named SoCon Co-Freshman of the Year after winning the triple jump and placing fourth in the 60-meter hurdles.
  • The Keydets captured three individual titles at the conference meet: Zachary Denton ’27 in the long jump, Deonte Harris ’29 in the triple jump, and Naturale Faison ’28 in the 60-meter dash.
  • VMI earned nine All-SoCon honors across the men’s and women’s teams: Faison (first, 60-meter), Harris (first, triple jump), Denton (first, long jump), Morgan Fraser ’27 (second, high jump), Reagan Gilman ’28 (third, 800-meter), Shea Hart ’26 (second, pentathlon), Cameron Thomas ’27 (second, pole vault), Kevin Koumondji ’28 (second, 60-meter), and the men’s 4×400 relay team of Anthony Wilkerson ’28, Ben Hagerich ’26, Rye Jackson ’28, and Taj Peace ’29 (third).
  • Gilman broke her own school record in the 800-meter twice during the season.
  • Gilman first set the mark with a 2:11.81 at Liberty’s Darius Dixon Invitational in mid-February. She later improved the record to 2:09.37, finishing third at the SoCon Championships and earning All-Conference honors.
  • Thomas set back-to-back personal bests in the pole vault during the season: He cleared 5.11 meters at the VMI Team Challenge and improved that mark the following week with a 5.12-meter vault at the VMI Invitational.
