CPT William E. Lyles ‘02 matriculated from Hampton, VA in 1999.  While at VMI, Will was a pitcher for the baseball team for all four years.  A year after graduation, Will decided that it was in his best interest to commission in the United States Army.  Will went on to complete IBOC, Ranger School, Airborne School, Captain’s Career Course, and Special Forces Qualification Course.  While in Afghanistan on his third tour, Will stepped on an IED and lost both of his legs.  He now wears two prosthetic legs.  Will was chosen as the guest speaker for the Keydet Club Scholarship Banquet on October 20, 2012. His speech brought many in the crowd to tears, and he received numerous standing ovations throughout his speech.  Will made it clear during his speech without VMI he would not be where he is today.

The Keydet Club is proud to announce the establishment of the William E. Lyles ’02 Baseball Scholarship in his honor.  The scholarship will represent a cadet-athlete on the VMI baseball team who is also from the Tidewater area.  Please support the Keydet Club by making a donation in honor of CPT William E. Lyles ’02.  It’s people like Will that make the Keydet Club proud to represent such a great Institution.
