New Cadet Recruiting

Legacy Day :Logo

Legacy Day - No Ordinary Day

Legacy Day gives VMI alumni the chance to share memories and introduce their children – ages 9 to 14 – to Institute life.

A typical Legacy Day schedule may include welcoming remarks from an Institute official, a demonstration by the VMI Pipes and Drums, forming up on the parade ground to pass in review for parents and guests, a guided tour, lunch, and other activities.

The concept for Legacy Day was originated in 1994 by the late Kurt Iversen ’85, who was then a staff member of The VMI Alumni Association.

Kurt was inspired by remembering the times he spent as a child visiting the Institute with his father, Ken Iversen ’54; some of Ken’s Brother Rats; and their children. Kurt knew that Legacy Day would provide an excellent opportunity for alumni and their families to experience the same memories and feelings that he experienced during his childhood.

Thanks to Kurt’s inspiration and creativity, the successful Legacy Day program was implemented by the Alumni Association and has been held each year.
